Traveling Teacher Pamela Arnold Announces Workshop on Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Link

Dallas, TX – A great teacher once said, “Education is a companion which no misfortune can depress, no crime can destroy, no enemy can alienate, no despotism can enslave… at home or abroad…”  Education may very well be the companion that helps an individual identify and then break the link between child abuse and domestic violence.

According to the Office of Health and Human Services of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (EOHHS), there is a link between child abuse and domestic violence which “often happens in the same family”.  Any person suspecting child maltreatment in a home is required by The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) to report it if such maltreatment is based on child abuse or child neglect.  Although child neglect may be more noticeable than child abuse in a home where domestic violence is rampant, by collapsing the two concepts of child abuse and child neglect as both worthy of reporting, the DFPS, in a sense, also recognizes the link between child abuse and domestic violence.

In spite of the available research that supports the link between child abuse and domestic violence, some people remain either skeptical or uneducated on the matter.  “The reason why I am doing this workshop is because people don’t know that child abuse eventually leads to domestic violence,” says Pamela Arnold, an expert with Traveling Teachers Enterprises.

The workshop will be based on research and education.  It will focus on educating participants on the different components of the child abuse and domestic violence matter: from detecting the signs of abuse to reporting the acts of abuse.
