Skype 2.0 App for iPhone Enables VoIP Calls over 3g
The updated software for iPhone introduces VoIP calls through the 3G network, provided they are authorized by the operators. But this service will be paying, including calls between Skype users.
The 2.0 version of Skype is now available for the iPhone, get it from here. This new version finally brings the possibility of making VoIP calls over 3G network, provided that the operator’s permission, which is the case with Orange and soon in SFR.
But Skype has decided to change its terms of use by charging for 3G VoIP communications, including calls between Skype users. The service will still be free until the end of the year as a confirmation from Skype, after which it becomes payable. The rates will be announced in the coming weeks.
Around three levels of billing?
Only calls “Skype to Skype” via WiFi will be free. What does a little limiting economic interest of VoIP on 3G network?
In Europe for example, Orange bill that service 15 euros per month, which should therefore be added to Skype rates without forgetting the fact that these papers will be recorded in data packages in

For now I’d say Mercury, and MSN compatible video. Someone there tried the competitor Gizmo ? Free, open protocol (SIP), and it seems to have even better audio quality. And it is simultaneously available on all platforms. It does not yet support video, but it’s more or less unofficially announced.
