would things have turn out the same if hypothetically dr. martin luther king was an atheist?

now i’m not saying that he was, but hypothetically, what if? would anyone pay attention to what he had to say? would they even consider it? would that give racists at the time more reasons to hate him? it seems to me that the civil rights movement would not have been successful if not for religion. this to me is saddening b/c at that time, one would have to conform to religious doctrines in order to be heard, respected, or acknowledge, especially those who were already viewed with disdain. essentially what i’m trying to say is that it’s too damn bad that someone back then and even today, has to be religious affiliated in order to be taken seriously.

I totally get what you mean. It is quite disappointing that religion still has so much power in society.. it’s kind of like saying if Jesus was a woman, (hypothetically) would there BE any followers in that era?
